Apocalypse One

A dream from 1/21/93

I had been out somewhere with my girlfriend and later met up somewhere with my parents. We were in the car driving down a busy store- and building-lined street. There were crowds of people on the sidewalks, and a bunch of people running along-side the cars in the street, yelling things. Joking around, I rolled down the window and yelled at them. I yelled something to the effect of, "Get out of the street you idiots!"

The farther we drove, the more the crowd got to the point where the streets were too crowded to drive. The crowd was in a state of serious tension, and we left our car and began to walk in order to get through the crowd. Someone yelled something, and and the situation turned into complete chaos. The crowd grew even more frenzied.

When we got back to our house, I asked someone what going on and why everyone was so upset. Someone showed me a newspaper which revealed that the president had received a mysterious envelope on his desk that contained three small sculpted iron fists. The iron fists symbolized three missles that were of such great power, their potential for destruction was not even fully known. These missles were possessed by Saddam Hussein, who had sent the envelope to warn the president that the missles were to be launched at the United States either on that day or very soon. The newspaper said it could have been a prank, but that it was most likely legitimate. All the people seemed to believe that it was real. The three missles were capable of destroying the entire U.S. It was said to be essentially the end of the world.

I began packing food and all the supplies I could fit in various backpacks and duffle bags. I planned on leaving with my parents in my dad's truck and we could go wherever we needed (outside of the city) to live in the back of his truck (which had a camper shell at the time). I was in the process of packing frantically when the dream ended.

The entire dream seemed intensely real at the time, and I felt a sense of impending doom through the entire thing.
